- Kid's Fitness Challenge Update |
| |
We
were so close!
On
April 19th, we had 62 people from San Jose Edison attend the
5K run/walk/ride at the California Speedway and Health Expo.
People who attended were able to walk/run/walk on the Speedway
track and receive some great gifts for attending. We were
able to receive things like pedometers, jump ropes, bags,
stuffed animals and Frisbees. They had climbing walls, basketball
courts, a soccer clinic, jumpers, fitness obsitcle course
and other activities for people to try. Unfortunately, we
were three people short to receive a grant for the Health
& Fitness Department (we needed 65).
Please
mark your calanders, we will have two chances next year for
the same event. In January, they will host an event at the
Pasadena Rose Bowl. In April, they will host the event at
the California Speedway.

Partnership,

(2:00 p.m.) - Junior Academy Student Pick-up Information (School
Fire) |
| |
Parents,
We
will continue to use the JA parking lot as both a drop-off
and pick-up area. Until further notice, the only change is
that students will be exiting the school via the football
field, through the Junior Academy basketball courts and then
to the JA parking lot. Students can continue to wait along
side the old school buildings.
We
ask that parents and students stay away from the burned buildings.
Temporary fencing is currently being put up. We understand
that everyone is curious to see what happened, but it is also
for your safety that you keep your distance.
Additional
information will continue to be sent as we learn about the
cause of our fire. We ask that you keep the immediate members
of the PTO & ASB, who put so much effort into everything
that was lost in your thoughts, as this has been very difficult
time for them. Many of you have asked how you can help, and
we will definitely keep you informed of what will be planned
to help recuperate what has been lost.
As
always - In Partnership,
Your
SJEA Staff

(9:30 a.m.) - School Fire Information |
| |
Dear
Parents,
Last
night, shortly after 10:00 p.m., a fire broke out in our Junior
Academy. The fire was contained to the "old" cafeteria
which currently housed our PTO room, and also served as storage
for ASB, school curriculum, technology and other school items.
We
have lost everything in our PTO room, and it seems our ASB
has also lost all of their items in storage as well.
Please
note that none of our classrooms were damaged and students
will be kept away from this area. An alternate location will
be used for our Junior Academy students to eat lunch.
All
of our water has been turned off until further notice; therefore,
portable restrooms have been brought in for the entire school.
Although
the air quality in the Junior Academy seems to be fine, any
student having trouble breathing, coughing or who has asthma
will be accommodated in another area of the school.
We
will be sending student pick-up and other information, to
keep you updated of the situation, later today.
If
you have any information regarding the fire, please contact
School Administration and/or the West Covina Police / Fire
Department.
In
Partnership,
SJEA Administration Team

- Winter Break Read-A-Thon |
| |
SJEA
student's have the opportunity to take part in a school wide
read-a-thon during our winter break. Students will be fundraising
for our school. The proceeds raised through this read-a-thon
will fund field trip buses, SFA Café, and other activities
and programs .
Between
December 14th and January 7th, students will find sponsors
(friends, relatives, neighbors, etc.) who will pledge a certain
amount of money for every minute or page read. Add the sponsor’s
name and his/her pledge to the Sponsor Form. (download
here) Sponsors can indicate a maximum pledge. Remember:
even small pledges help!
- All
reading during the dates of the read-a-thon count –
it does not matter whether your child reads by themselves,
are reading to someone else, or have someone read to them.
- Set
a goal for how much money you hope to raise to help our
school. Record this goal in the section at the bottom of
the Sponsor Form.
- Read
as much as you can! Record the number of pages your child
has read on the Tracking Sheet.
- At
the end of the Read-A-Thon, total the pages and collect
your pledges. Send the envelope back to the school office
or your child’s teacher.

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008. Even if the student is not participating
we ask that you return the envelope to their teacher.
Reading
is the means through which every man, woman and child can
reach their full potential. We hope to encourage you and your
child to participate. Your child can keep reading during the
winter break and also help his/her school. Your support is
absolutely necessary in order to fund many of our programs.
