On Sunday, September 18th, we lost a very special member of our school family. Our beloved Mrs. Kim Shool-Morataya passed away following a courageous fight against cancer.

Many of you may remember that Mrs. Shool had first been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in the summer of 2000. During this very difficult time, she continued to teach and was only absent when she was too ill from the chemotherapy. She recovered from her illness and was soon after married to Julio Morataya. She looked forward to living life cancer-free with her new husband.

In December of 2003, following the birth of her daughter, Emma, she was once again diagnosed with a cancerous tumor growing on her left lung. She underwent chemotherapy and later had her lung removed, teaching up until the time of her surgery.

Mrs. Shool once again returned in the Fall of 2004 to take on another set of eager kindergarteners, however during the year she was diagnosed with cancer for the third time. This school year, Mrs. Shool decided to take a leave of absence so that she could rest and get better.

Throughout her bouts with this disease, Mrs. Shool maintained a positive attitude and outlook. Her courage is to be admired, and the strength and personal determination she showed will not be forgotten anytime soon. She will be missed by so many. At this time, we ask that you keep Mrs. Shool's family in your prayers!
