SJEA
offers a variety of after-school athletic, club and music programs
that meet throughout the year depending on student interest and
availability of a staff advisor. These clubs usually meet once a
week, depending on the quarter and or season. The links below provide
general information regarding each program, the most current meeting
times can be found on our calendar
page. If you would like additional
information about any activity, please contact the respective program's
advisor.

About:
Students in 4th-8th grade are encouraged to be a part
of the San Jose-Edison Art Club. This is a great opportunity
to learn about advanced techniques, work with new
materials, such as clay, ink, fabric, and oil pastels,
as well as experience working in teams on school projects.
Art Club is also another way of staying connected
to the Visual Arts all year long! Students may not
miss more than two Art Club Meetings per quarter.
If you would like further information on SJEA's Art
Club please stop by Rm. 601 to meet the instructors.

ASB meetings are held every week
on Monday from 3:20to 4:20 pm. Officers are required
to attend all meetings. All ASB members are responsible
for obtaining information if they miss any meetings
(calendar, information, planned events, updates, etc.)

About:
Students who choose to run for office have the opportunity
to serve our school, student body, and community through
positions of leadership. Students may run for any office
they like, but they must meet the prescribed qualifications.

About:
Students
who have never played an instrument before, or who are
still learning the basics about their instrument can
participate in this group. Students do not need any
prior experience to play in this band. By the end of
beginning band students should be able to play eighth
and sixteenth note passages. Students play most pieces
in unison during beginning band. This group The Standards
of Excellence Book 1 and Standards Sounds of the Season.
In the spring we work on a two of pieces playing in
an ensemble. Students in this band work on beginning
techniques, as they learn how to perform with an ensemble.
We perform 2 concerts a year and in June we attend a
seminar at Disneyland.

About:
The
SJEA Choir performs two big concerts a year (Winter
and Spring). They also perform at community festivals.
We participate in one festival in which we are judged
and awarded a trophy based on our skill and performance
level. Students also get to spend that same day in
a popular theme park.

About:
Students
who have been playing a wind instrument for one year
and can participate in this group, or who have completed
one year of beginning band. Students should be able
to play eighth and sixteenth note passages. This group
uses the second half of The Standards of Excellence
Book 1 and the Standards of excellence Book 2. In
the spring we work on a variety of pieces from the
Standards of Excellence performance plus book. Students
in this band work on fundamental techniques, as they
learn how to perform with an ensemble. We perform
2 concerts a year and in June we attend a seminar
at Disneyland.

Flag
football is offered to both girls and boys in the
Junior Academy. Team members chosen to be on the
team participate in the sports league and the team
competes against theh following schools: Edgewood,
Hollencrest, Giano, Rincon, and Alvarado Middle
Schools.

About:
The
Peer Assistance and Leadership program (PAL)
is a peer-to-peer outreach program where
the Jr. Academy students will have the opportunity
to be conflict mediators and have a positive
impact on the overall school climate. These
students are selected based on teacher’s
recommendation and their personal qualities.
These personal qualities are, good listeners
(helper), dependability, honesty, potential
for leadership, and initiative. The program
will train students in conflict mediation
skills, and life skills. Also, students
will participate in community services,
new student orientation, tutoring, help
with Red Ribbon Week, canned food drive,
and other school activities.

About:
The
SJEA Chronicle is a newsletter that was
developed in hopes of bringing student life
into perspective here at SJEA. Knowing that
students really enjoy hearing about themselves
and their accomplishments, the Chronicle
is a great way for our groups and clubs
to display their achievements.

Meetings:
Yearbook meetings are held every
other Wednesday from November to February and then
every Wednesday from March thru May. Staff members
are required to attend all meetings and must be available
on Wednesday in order to be a member.

About:
Yearbook
members must apply for a position to be on the SJEA
Yearbook staff. The staff is open to students in grades
5 - 8. Application and interview process takes place
in October of each year. SJEA
yearbook puts out two publications per year (Kindergarten
-5th grade book & 6th-8th grade book).
