| The
AUP applies to both "The Common" and online/ Internet
Services and meets CIPA requirements.
(*All students are required to have an AUP on
file with Ms. Palos)
Use
of communication software and on-line services is
an important skill for today’s technologically
literate students. San Jose-Edison Academy wants
to open this important avenue of telecommunication
and research to our students while ensuring their
safety. The Common is a way of electronically communicating
with others and accessing information. As a student
at San Jose-Edison Academy, I agree to comply with
these guidelines as explained by my teacher, the
school and the Director of Technology. When using
The Common, I accept the following basic rules:
1.
I will be safe on The Common and the internet. I
will never give out personal information about myself,
like my home address and telephone number.
2. I will use appropriate language on The Common.
If it is language that I cannot use with my teachers
or parents (such as swearing and threatening other
people), I will not use it on The Common.
3. I will always treat people on-line with respect.
I will not use The Common to insult or threaten
other users. I assume responsibility for the content
of messages I send on The Common.
4. I will respect the privacy of other users and
will not make any attempts to gain access into the
private accounts of other users. I will not allow
other users access to my account and will keep my
password private.
5. I understand that The Common is to be used for
educational use. I understand that the system administrator
and/or the Director of Technology can access my
account.
6. I will not download any applications (games)
or programs at school from the Internet and The
Common unless I am told to by a teacher or by school
administration.
7. I will not add any software to the school’s
computers.
8. I understand that the software provided to me
for home use is protected under copyright law. I
agree not to copy this software unlawfully and/or
distribute any materials provided for our use. I
will model and encourage ethical use of the software
among my friends, family members, and the community.
9. I will have a completed AUP on file with the
Director of Technology, Ms. Palos, in order to use
the The Common, the internet and my school email
account.
I understand that the Internet is a non-censored
media and the possibility exists for inappropriate
material to be displayed. The utmost care in the
classroom will be taken to avoid this situation.
San Jose-Edison Academy will not be held liable
for any indiscretion involving Common/Internet use.
Students should never respond to any messages that
are suggestive, obscene or threatening. Students
should be reminded that the traditional parent warnings
against “talking to strangers” apply
in this case for the same safety reasons. Any such
messages should be brought to the attention of an
adult, teacher or the Director of Technology so
the service provider can be contacted for an investigation.
San-Jose Edison Academy reserves the right to log
Common/Internet use; to monitor file server space
utilization by users; and remove a user from the
network in the event of unauthorized activity. Abuse
is considered serious misconduct and will be dealt
with by loss of computer privileges. I understand
that if I violate any of the above rules, I could
lose my computer privileges. I understand that failure
to follow the rules of The Common and the Internet
as explained here will result in the loss of my
privileges using The Common and the Internet. I
will accept the punishment determined by my teacher,
school administration and/or by the Director of
Technology. I hereby pledge to use The Common with
respect, to have fun and to allow my fellow students
to have fun as well. |
