A letter from the Aiono Family

Dear Friends and Families of SJEA,

As a parent I’ve always stood tall and proud knowing that my children are amongst a lucky group of students who are privilege to attend SJEA. I’ve been a part of SJEA since the day it opened. I’ve had two students who have graduated from here and have gone on to be successful in high school and one in college. I have three more currently attending SJEA. Today I stand taller and prouder as a parent from San Jose Edison Academy because of you!!!!!

When Ms. Palos told me that the whole school was going to get involved with the backpack drive… I was so touched. When the letters went out with the students it was Wednesday… with only a two-day turn around for our deadline. Ms. Palos emailed me on Thursday to let me know that backpacks have been donated and collected in the library. When I walked in on Friday morning to pick up the donations… I was speechless!!!! There were over 200 backpacks in the library. In addition to the backpacks, tons of school supplies and books were donated… in addition to this a one of our SJEA families donated 2 boxes of toothpaste (300 pcs) and another family donated 10 boxes of books! Your donations brought us to over 470 plus backpacks total.

Friday (tomorrow) the container leaves the port heading to Western Samoa. It will take about 12 – 14 days to ship. I wish I could see the faces of the children there when they see the backpacks. Please know that the kids of Western Samoa will be so grateful and happy when they receive their backpacks filled with coloring books, crayons, paper, notepads, pencils and some stuffed animals and blankets. Oh and not to mention the notes of love and support that you wrote.

Our Project Backpack was a huge success due to your generosity and efforts. I wish I could give each of you a big hug. Your act of kindness and giving will make a child’s life a little brighter.

We thank you all for your love and support. SJEA staff and families are amazing… we are so grateful and so lucky to be a part of a community that cares. SJEA FAMILIES ROCK!!!!!!!!

From our family to yours… we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!

Love,
Aiono Family
(Guyton Aiono Alaipalelei family)

Project BackPack

On September 30th an earthquake generated Tsunami struck the islands of Samoa and surrounding regions. Many families were affected by the disaster. mostly elders and children. Along with this, hundreds of families are now homeless.

One of our very own SJEA families has been personally affected by this natural disaster and has taken the initiative to organize a 'backpack drive" to send to the children of Samoa. As a part of our continues effort to give back to those in need , SJEA has decided to help the Aiono Family to reach their goal of collecting 200 backpacks to send to these children who have lost almost all of their personal belongings. Our turn around time to meet this goal is very short, so we need your help!

There will be a container leaving for Samoa in a little over one week! We would like to collect as many backpacks filled with school supplies by Friday, October, 23rd. If you can find it in your heart to donate a backpack (does not need to be an expensive one) with a notebook, pencils, crayons, a coloring book or anything else that you can put in would help in brightening the day of a child. $10 at the 99 cent store can go a very long way! Something as simple as a reading book or a coloring book could help bring life back to normal for one of these children who have had to experience such a tragic event.

Although it would be nice to send toys, most of these children are homeless and will not have a place to put their toys, so we would prefer to send school supplies, books and or a small stuffed animal . . . who wouldn't want to cuddle up with a Teddy Bear!

The Aiono family cannot do this alone, so we are counting on our staff and our SJEA families to help meet our 200 Backpack goal! We have one week to do this, so with your compassion and generosity, together we can make a difference!

Please send your backpack with your child or you may also drop off in room 404. We will have a form they can complete so that the backpack recipient can also receive a note from the donating family. All families will be recognized on our school website, all students will be entered into a drawing and will also receive a Free Dress day pass ... our Leadership Team is also looking into other incentives!!! For more information, please contact Ms. Palos or Ms. Aiono. Thank you in advance for your help!
